When we moved from CA we traveled to Salt Lake and then went North. Yellowstone was completely awesome and we wished we had more time there. With dog and cat in tow it was a little rough. Beautiful. Another favorite along the route were Mt. Rushmore. Sounds like you will be mostly north but if you have interest in So. Utah, AZ, So. Cal, let me know as my Dad had some favorites but I have never been. He was such a buff on the State Parks. He actually left this world from Kalamath Falls and Crater Lake. I think this must have been his ultimate and one day I will find the courage to go see it myself. Whatever you do, take lots of pictures by which you can remember the moment. You only live once- or in our case...we live through your adventures. ...MY VOTE IS FOR D.C.!!!

Wow I love the pictures. I recognized the "earth and sky" picture right away and I will always remember out trip to the San Diego Temple! I am glad to see you took time to enjoy life while you were there! You absolutely should see Yellow Stone. It is truly one of the most amazing places I have ever been. Martins Cove in Wyoming, Kirtland Ohio, Mount Rushmore, and your really long bed in Missouri are on top of my list!
